Back in 1997, he raced a McLaren F1 in the FIA GT Championship, and helped the team with development work for the Le Mans 24 Hours race. Subsequently he was offered a drive with the Le Mans team. He worked on the MP4-98T two-seater Formula 1 car and the Adrenaline programme, which took Formula 1 cars to countries which didn't hold grands prix of their own, and he also shook down some of McLarens historic Formula 1 cars. He was asked by Frank Coppuck, McLaren Cars' Head of Development, and Chief Designer Gordon Murray to be involved in the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren project, and is now the Chief Test Driver for McLaren Cars.
