Bert Brooks

Brooks was a successful sprint and midget driver in the eastern United States. He won the URC Sprint Car Championships 4 times. Tried and failed to qualify for Indy in 1961.

Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, Brookes was a successful sprint and midget driver in the eastern U.S.. He won the URC Sprint Car Championships 4 times.

On Memorial Day weekend in 1956 Bert Brooks won the inaugural sprint car club event at the Fonda Speedway, New York.

In 1959 Brooks was leading championship going into the last round at Danbury. However a few weeks earlier he had rolled Ed Darrell's car at Trenton, and fuel got inside his two-piece drivers suit and ignited. He was badly burned and could not defend his points lead. Len Duncan won the race and the title but he was not happy as Bert was not there.

He tried but failed to qualify for Indy in 1961.

He was killed driving one of Ken Brenn's cars at the Hershey Stadium racing in the ARDC (American Racing Drivers Club) Midget Championship in 1968.
