Dave Hoover

Dave Hoover was a captain with American Airlines for 28 years flying 747s. He raced in CanAm in the early 1980s. A member of the Coors Light Silver Bullet Jet Display Team, he was killed in a flying accident in 1992.

Dave Hoover grew up in in Bexley, Ohio with a love of love for planes, cars and motorcycles and a great sense of humor. He graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in 1964.

He was a captain with American Airlines for 28 years flying 747s and was also a member of the Coors Light Silver Bullet Jet Team for five years, entertaining crowds with humorous narratives from the cockpit as he put on air displays in his Bede Jet.

He drove in CanAm for a number of years racing at Lola 332 at Trois Rivieres in 1979 and 1980 and a 333 at Mid-Ohio and Watkins Glen in 1981.

Hoover was killed in flying accident at Chico, California, at the end of display routine. While performing a flamed-out roll on final approach, he seemed to lose consciousness, possibly as the result of a medical condition. He did a couple of strange turns away from the approach course before hitting the ground at a very steep angle with no apparent attempt to pull up.
