Bob Ansell
18/11/1917 - 13/1/2004
Record updated 18-Nov-06
Bob Ansell was from the Ansells Brewery family. Bob and Geoffrey, his cousin, were well-heeled and very enthusiastic. Their Maserati and ERA cars were prepared for them and sometimes driven by George Bainbridge.
In 1948 he drove in the British Grand Prix in a Maserati 4CM. He shared the car with George Bainbridge, they finished 12th. The race was won by Luigi Villoresi in a Maserati 4CLT/48. In the same race Brian Shawe-Taylor shared an ERA with Geoff Ansell. It was the first British grand prix to be held at Silverstone, although this was not a proper title round as the official world championship would not start for another two years.
