Zampedri raced in Indy Cars before returning to Europe to compete in the Porsche Supercup, winning the Championship in 2005.

Zampedri started racing in international Karting. After winning the Formula Alfa Boxer Champion in 1989, he deceided to become a professional racing driver.

Alex competed in F3 and F3000 in the early ninetees, with a best finish 3rd at the Nuburgring GP, and this was a natural progression into the international scene. So in 1994 Alex moved into the Indycar Championship, in which he competed from 1995 to 1997.

The highlight of his Indycar career was a 4th place at the 1996 Indianapolis 500 after a huge crash on the last lap. A short appeareance in the TransAm Championship in 1998 was his first step into GT racing.

In 1999 he moved back to Europe and entered the Porsche Supercup, the "fastest one make series in the world".

His seventh year in the Porsche Cup was the most successful of a career, winning the 2005 Porsche Michelin Supercup Champion.
