Former United States Auto Club (USAC) stock car competitor.
Dave Whitcomb was from Valparaiso, Indiana. He was a regular campaigner on the old United States Auto Club (USAC) stock car circuit, racing against top Indy drivers and works teams.
He started racing in the early 1960s with a Hudson in which he took many wins. In1963 he won the Rensselaer Raceway Championship
He won two USAC stock car events. His first win came driving the Howard Racing Enterprises winged Dodge in a 150-lap race at the Indianapolis Raceway Park in 1971.
In 1975 he returned to the almost-circular Rensselaer dirt oval and won the Northern Indiana Clay Track Championship 100 lapper with his USAC Camaro.
In 1976 he took his second USAC win at the I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Mo. driving a Camaro in the 150-lap race.
