Mike Harris was born in Mufulira, Northern Rhodesia. After finishing third in the 1962 Rhodesian Grand Prix and winning the Rhodesian championship that year, Harris entered the series of races staged around the South African Grand Prix late in the year with an ex-Reg Parnell Cooper T53 (F1-1-61) fitted with an Alfa engine.
Unfortunately for Mike he retired from all three events. A puncture ended his Natal Grand Prix and he also failed to finish his qualifying heat for the Rand Grand Prix, thus missing the final.
In the South African Grand Prix at East London he retired with engine failure before half-distance.
That appears to have been Harris’ last major single-seater outing and he didn't race at national level again.
