He tried to race at Le Mans in 66 with Roger McCluskey, USA in a Arciero Mk 2 - Chevrolet but there entry was not accepted.
David Letterman (TV personality and Indycar team owner) who was raised in the northern suburbs of Indianapolis, was a fan of Bud Tingelstad when he was growing up.
Bud's life had been beset with alcohol problems and he had not raced since 1972.
He was already struggling with cirrosis of the liver when he was diagnosed with TB. Tingelstad lost his battle with tuberculosis on Thursday, July 30 1981.
