Saby won the 1988 Monte Carlo Rally. His name is now synonymous with desert rallying. He won the Paris Dakar in 1993 and the World Cross-Country Cup in 2005.
Saby is from from Grenoble and is an expert in the field of endurance rallying. He started his driving career in 1967 behind the wheel of more traditional rally cars and was French Rally Champion in 1981.
He took two World Rally Championship wins in his career. His first, driving a Peugeot 205 T16, was the infamous 1986 Tour de Corse, in which Henri Toivonen and his co-driver Sergio Cresto died. His other win was with Lancia in the 1988 Monte Carlo rally.
A stint behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Pajero in 1992 on the Paris-Sirte-Le Cap event convinced Saby that this was the way to go and his name has now become synonymous with desert rallying.
He won the Paris Dakar in 1993, but he had never won a world championship until 2005 when he took the World Cross-Country Cup.
He is currently a driver for the Volkswagen Raid team.
