Swiss amateur who mainly raced a Jaguar XK120 in local races and hill climbs. He entered one Grand Prix, the Swiss in 1953, in a HWM - Alta. He had a minor accident but restarted and finished in 9th place but was unclassified as he was 16 laps behind the winner, Alberto Ascari.
Albert Scherrer was a Swiss Businessman from Basle who raced a Jaguar XK120 on a strictly amateur basis from the late 1940 until the mid 1950s.
He scored some top-three finishes at Bremgarten and Geneva.
In 1949 he drove in the over 1500cc sportscar support race for the Grand Prix von Ostchweiz at Erlen, a circuit about 70 km from Zürich. He finished 5th driving an 2300cc Alfa Romeo.
In June 1950 he came 3rd in a non-championship round of the World Sportscar Championship at Bremgarten and the following month finished second in the sportscar Grand Prix des Nations in Geneva. In 1952 he took second in class in the Grand Prix de Bern, once again in his XK120.
He was also a regular competitor in the very popular Swiss hill climb events.
He entered the Swiss Grand Prix in 1953 at Bremgarten in a rented HWM - Alta. However he had a shunt and, though he got going again and made it to the finish in 9th place, he did not complete enough laps to be classified, ending up 16 laps down on the winner, Alberto Ascari in a Ferrari 500.
He eventually aquired a Mercedes 300SL, winning the over 2600 cc production sports class in the 1956 Ollon-Villars hill-climb.
