Known for his exceptional fashion sense and his likable personality, Charlie was also a pretty respectable driver. After trying his hand at F3, switched to saloon cars racing in Renaults in the 70s before graduating to the European Touring Car Championships.

His wife left him for Sir Frank Williams. Charlie used to keep his MV Augusta in the living room which might have given his wife some cause to move.
