Father of Tomas Enge, Břetislav Enge was one of Czechoslovakia's top racing drivers of the 1970s and 1980s.

Tomas did not see much of his father's racing because at the time only a few people could leave the country and Bretislav did most of his racing in the European Touring Car Championship, initially with Skoda and later with western teams, notably Hartge.

When the Iron Curtain disappeared and Czechs could travel, it meant that Bretislav could race at home and he started competing with Ford Escorts.

1981, Skoda won the overall manufacturers' title with a team of three 130RS 1.3-litre works cars driven by a group of Czech drivers, which included Bretislav Enge and Zdenek Vojtech.

In 1982 he started racing a BMW 528i and a year later, he raced a BMW 635 CSi. He placed second in the Mugello 500 km race and third in the Tourist Trophy. For 1986 season he raced a BMW 325i and in 1987 with a BMW M3 E30.

He also took part in two WTCC races in 1987.

After his active racing career, he was a dealer for Volkswagen cars with his company Auto Enge. He later returned to rallying, competing in the Czech Rally Championship of Historic Cars, in which he participated with second-generation Škoda 130 LR and Ford Escort RS 2000 cars, navigated by his daughter Lucie, and they won the championship twice.

He was the father of Tomáš ,the first Czech Formula 1 driver.
