Martin Birrane was born in Knockmore, County Mayo, Ireland. He is an Irish millionaire, the owner and Group Chairman of the world's largest racing car manufacturer, Lola Cars, as well as being the owner of Mondello Park.

Birrane made his money in property development. He has competed in the Le Mans 24 Hours 8 times, and has many other motor racing achievements.
