Dennis Firestone from Australia drove in CART from 1979 to 1987. A broken neck sustained in a crash in the Indy 500 in 1987 ended his racing career.

Dennis Firestone was born in Townsville, Australia and is a former CART driver from 1979 to 1987.

Firestone started racing in Formula Ford in 1971 and over the next 5 years won not only the SCCA National Championship but also the Kimberly Cup.

A switch to Formula Super Vee in 1978 saw him awarded Rookie of the Year title and the series Championship in1979 taking seven wins in his two seasons in the formula.

He moved to CART in 1980 and was the Rookie of the year that season finishing in 12th in the points, it was to be his best season.

His best finish in a CART race was a pair of 5th places that year. He made 5 starts in the Indianapolis 500 with a best finish of 10th in 1981.

An accident at Indianapolis in 1987 resulted in a broken neck, ended his racing career.

Since his driving days, he has run a California trucking company.
