Joe Eubanks was one of the pioneers of stock car racing. During his Grand National career he started 159 races, had 37 top-fives and 81 top-10s but just one win.

Joe Eubanks was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA. He was one of the pioneers of stock car racing, making his Grand National debut in l950 at the age of 24, driving a self-owned Mercury in the Southern 500 at Darlington. He qualified 21st in the 75-car field and finished 19th.

In 1951, he ran a total of 12 races in Hudsons and Oldsmobiles owned by Phil Oates and the Oates Motor Company. He finished second at Detroit and had a pair of third place runs late in the season at Hillsboro and North Wilkesboro.

During the next two years, Eubanks and Oates continued their relationship, posting several top-10 finishes and then notching a pair of pole positions in 1953 at Martinsville and Macon. He finished fifth in the point standings after the 1954 season, when he again drove for Oates but the elusive first victory still had not been attained.

Beginning in 1955, he ran less than half the scheduled events and he competed in the two Charlotte races in his final season of competition in 1961.

During his Grand National career he started 159 races, had 37 top-fives and 81 top-10s. His single victory came in 1957 when he drove Jim Stephens' Pontiac to victory at Occoneechee Speedway in Hillsboro, North Carolina.
