Ulli Richter was a well known gentleman driver from Essen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Richter never raced anything else but Porsche.

He started racing a 924 Carrera GTS in 1983 finishing 13th over all at the WSC 1000 Kms Nurburgring. At the end of 1984 he quit racing for nearly 10 years. Then in 1993 he returned to drive a private 911 Carrera RSR, finishing 17th overall at Le Mans 24 Hours.

At the Daytona 24 Hour race in 1994 he finished 3rd over all and won the GT class in a 911 RSR shared with German team mates Dirk Ebeling, Gunther Doebler and Karl-Heinz Wlazik. In 1995 he finished 5th over all with Swiss drivers Enzo Calderari and Lilian Bryner and Italian Renato Mastropietro in a Stadler Motorsport 911 RSR, and the following year he finished fourth overall with Calderari, Bryner and French Ferdinand de Lesseps in the same car.

Then Richter took on a full programme of GT racing with BPR Global Endurance in 1996 and FIA-GT in 1997 driving for Team Stadler, intitially in a 911 RSR and then in a 911 GT2 shared with Lilian Bryner and Enzo Calderari. Their best result was 11th at the Zhuhai 4 Hours in 1996. From 1998 he concentrated on national GT and classic races.

He raced again in the Daytona 24 Hours in 2000 and 2001 in a Porsche GT3RS with Juergen Alzen (in 2001 again with Calderari and Bryner). His last race was with Alzen when they finished 16th at the Sebring 12 Hours 2001.

Ulli Richter died at the wheel of a Team Manthey Porsche 996 GT3 in qualifying for the 6 Stunden ADAC Ruhr Pokal Rennen, a round of the BF Goodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft on the Nordschleife-Nurburgring. He collided with a Renault Megane at Dottinger-Hohe probably due to a mechanical failure, hit the barrier and was killed on impact.
